Amazon’s Alexa Told A Customer To Kill Their Foster Parents. Er, What?

Owners of Amazon Alexa devices in the US can have a conversation with AI just by saying “Alexa, let’s chat”. This phrase activates a socialbot, which will converse with you about anything you want to talk about. The goal is to give you a coherent conversation, like you would have with a human.  Unfortunately, not everyone has been satisfied by the kinds of conversations they’ve been having with their AI pal. As well as reports of Alexa reading graphic descriptions of masturbation using phrases like “deeper”, the AI chatbot also reportedly received negative feedback from a customer after it told them to “kill your foster parents”. The unnamed user wrote in a review that the phrase was “a whole new level of …

Sending Astronauts To Mars Would Be “Stupid”, Says Astronaut Who Went To The Moon

Space exploration sucks. At least, that’s what certain astronauts will tell you. Not only will you puke the whole way to the Moon, you won’t even enjoy it when you get there – apart from a tiny, contraband art gallery, the only sights you’re likely to see are “devastation”, “meteor craters”, and “no color at all, just different shades of grey,” according to Apollo 8 crewmember Frank Borman. Even the iconic flag is probably gone by now. And now adding his voice to the list of space-age naysayers is Borman’s crewmate Bill Anders. In an interview for a BBC radio documentary commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission, Anders described prospective crewed missions to Mars – which NASA plans to launch …
