March is Women’s History Month and we are celebrating TF out of strong, independent ladies (okay, we do that every month, but right now it’s fancy and official).

At first, there was just a Women’s History Week from March 2 through March 8 (now International Women’s Day) but in 1987, Congress officially decided that women are too badass for just one week and declared the entire month of March to be Women’s History Month

This year, a light has been shed on women’s issues, the fight for equality, and the end of sexual harassment more than ever: With the #MeToo Movement serving as encouragement for women to share their stories and the Time’s Up Movement taking action to create positive changes for women everywhere, women from Hollywood to small towns across the country are making it clear that enough is enough.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re surrounding ourselves with as much pro-female gear as possible.

Check out these totally girl power gift items, subscription boxes, and books to celebrate yourself or the strong, independent women in your life. And remember: That strong woman you need could be you.

“Woman Card” Playing Deck

Image: uncommongoods

During the 2016 election, Donald Trump accused Hillary Clinton of playing the “woman card” — to which she responded “If fighting for women’s health care, paid family leave, and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in!” Yes, girl.

This 52-card playing deck lets you play the “woman card” — literally. Cards sport illustrations of important female figures from the 18th century to current day including Sacagawea, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Sojourner Truth. The Ace is Hillary Clinton, the first and only woman to be a presidential nominee from a major party and the King is Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to Congress.

Grab some wine and amp up your next girl’s night by snagging the Woman Card Deck for $20 here.

Books

These are a few of our must-read picks for Women’s History Month, but you can also check out Mashable’s 10 books to read during the #MeToo era.

Ain’t I a Woman by bell hooks

Image: south end press

If you’ve taken a sociology course on gender or race, Ain’t I a Woman by bell hooks has probably come up. hooks hits hard on intersectional feminism, which looks at the inequality women face past gender, like race, ableism, and sexual orientation.

Titled after Sojourner Truth’s Ain’t I a Woman speech, this classic piece of feminist scholarship goes beyond the surface of “girl power” by discussing the feminist movement during slavery: how being black and being a woman caused black female slaves to face the most prejudice of all, and how racism toward black women ran rampant among feminists.

Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman, by Anne Helen Petersen

Chosen as one of NPR’S Best Books of 2017, Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman is a fresh and brilliant take on the loud, difficult woman who is no longer taking shit from anyone.

Anne Helen Petersen takes an analytical look at how women like Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj push the limits of what society deems “acceptable” (and why it’s not their job to be a role model for your kid). Through the lens of feminism, Petersen looks to the women of Hollywood who challenge double standards to spark a conversation about cultural norms, sexual harassment, and gender equality — all in perfect timing with rise of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements.

Bossypants, by Tina Fey

Another must-read is Tina Fey’s Bossypants, an autobiographical comedy about her rise to stardom before 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, and Baby Mama. She dives into her struggles with things that most women are all too familiar with: Society’s idea of physical beauty, sexism in the workforce (the TV industry in her case), and being called “bossy” simply because you’re not the submissive woman the society wants you to be. If nothing else, there’s no way a Tiny Fey book won’t be hilarious.

Grab this New York Times bestseller for Kindle, a physical copy, or an audiobook with Tina Fey herself as the narrator here, with prices starting at just $4.
